SMART@CAR Inaugural Meeting Oct. 23, 2008

The SMART@CAR inaugural meeting was a huge success with over 40 people in attendance, representing 11 companies. Those companies included automotive partners, the electric utility sector, power electronics and the Ohio Department of Development.

The outline of the event consisted of the following discussions: 

Overview of CAR

SMART@CAR Research Thrusts

Fleet Studies-  Development of standards, data formats, and acquisition systems; Fleet data acquisition; data repository and data analysis (G. Rizzoni, CAR, OSU);

PHEVs and their interaction with renewable energy sources and the grid-  Model interdependencies between PHEVs and the grid (V. Marano, CAR, OSU);

Power Electronics: Connecting the Vehicle and the Grid- From concept to realization, power electronics needs for PHEV applications; on board and off board applications, communication with battery management system and
vehicle control system (J. Wang, ECE, OSU)

Macroeconomics, Regulations, and Public Policy- Economic and public policy issues with significant role in the beneficial development of a viable PHEVs market. (S. Potter, Institute for Energy and the Environment, OSU);     

Current PHEV research activities at CAR:

Vehicle and energy storage technology- Battery aging and management, power electronics, V2G and V2B interface and communications (Y. Guezennec, CAR, OSU);

Vehicle design, energy management and control strategies for PHEVs-  Tools for PHEV vehicle design, energy analysis and energy management (G. Rizzoni, CAR, OSU).
