Distance and Continuing Education
Our Distance and Continuing Education Program integrates CAR research into graduate-level and continuing education opportunities to provide professionals with the cutting-edge knowledge that is required for innovation in the automotive industry—all without the full commitment of a master’s program.
- Fully tailored certificate programs to meet your needs
- Flexibility in short course content and delivery (on-site, at CAR, online)
Record of Success
For over 20 years, CAR’s Distance Education Program has been preparing practicing engineers for success in the transportation and energy industry. With program participants in a number of locations worldwide, CAR has an educational reach that’s globally encompassing. The certificate courses and seminars involve cutting edge research and trend development. Completion of the program grants engineering professionals an understanding of the automotive industry that is both current and comprehensive. In result, the content featured in program courses and seminars is constantly adapted with respect to industry need and research trends.
Customized to Meet Your Needs
We provide a specialized curriculum in a variety of automotive systems areas through graduate courses and specialized, non-credit seminars which can be combined into graduate-level certificate programs.
Continuing Education Certificate Program
The Certificate Program is the primary professional education program administered by CAR.
- Two credit courses
- Two to three noncredit seminars
The program has three specialized certificate tracks:
- Advanced propulsion systems
- Powertrain modeling and control
- Noise, vibrations and harshness
Students take courses for graduate credit and seminars on state-of-the-art complementary content through a focused, strategically-aligned curriculum and receive a Certificate of Completion from the Ohio State College of Engineering.
The certificate mandates the separate completion of two graduate credit courses (one in autumn, one in spring semester), with a minimum grade of B. Additionally, participants will complete two to three non-credit, self-paced seminars on topics that are supplemental to their studies.
We tailor each certificate for the individual industrial partner by jointly defining a strategically aligned curriculum to suit the needs of the partner.
Our graduate courses are offered to both on campus and distance individuals who are enrolled as an Ohio State student. Students gain access to course material online and via streamed lectures and have direct access to their instructor and TA throughout the course via email and/or conference call.
Distance students complete the same assignments and are graded as on-campus students.
Non-Credit Seminars and Short Courses
These offerings draw extensively from CAR’s research and innovation and are targeted to professionals in the transportation industry.
Our prep courses provide preparation material for students on specific subjects, as pre-requisites for advanced courses.
Our advanced seminars focus on specific and innovative topics with constantly updated material.
Seminars range from 8 - 20 hours (some courses include lab sessions as well), and can be delivered as self-paced online courses, live on-site or live at CAR.
