Home of the FTA Low or No Emissions Bus Testing Center and Component Assessment Program

The Ohio State University established the Commercial Vehicle Testing and Research Laboratory to support the on-road heavy-duty transportation industry.  The laboratory conducts safety, structural integrity, durability, performance, maintainability, noise and fuel economy certification and research testing for both industry and government agencies.

Ohio State’s Columbus, Ohio laboratory includes a heavy-duty chassis dynamometer for emissions, durability, and misfire certification and research testing. On-site refueling is available for CNG, hydrogen, electric and diesel models. Component testing facilities are present to support energy storage, electric motors, fuel cells, BMS and DC:DC converter research and testing.

The laboratory’s proving ground is located in East Liberty, Ohio and supports full vehicle research and certification testing. The proving ground facilities include a bus durability course, noise test areas, a dynamic pad for performance evaluations and multiple maintenance and repair bays. The proving ground operates and is staffed 24-hours per day 360 days per year.
