In 10TV's recent story about autonomous vehicles--Ohio State researchers working on car that will drive itself--Arda Kurt, senior research associate at Ohio State's Center for Automotive Research, describes how driverless vehicles could impact local drivers. "'So, if you can have this capability on your car, talking about Columbus, you can drive up to 315, push a button and read your morning newspaper till you come to the exit that you're going to take on 315, and take it from there, initially,' explained Kurt."

The work on autonomous vehicles is being done at the Center for Intelligent Transportation Research laboratory. A small-scale city with traffic lights and multiple roadways is driven by programmed robots that negotiate turns and traffic. Kurt predicts that driverless vehicles are not too far away.
