Ohio State EcoCAR visited the Hastings Middle School Robotics Club to teach the students about EcoCAR and the many opportunities available in the automotive industry. Simon Trask, the teams engineering manager, and Kerri Loyd, the electrical team leader, gave a presentation to approximately 30 seventh graders highlighting each functional team within EcoCAR and how those teams relate to robotics.

Kerri Lloyd, the electrical team lead for EcoCAR, talks to the students about the different opportunities available to them in the automotive industry.

“My favorite part about doing outreach events like this is getting to talk to kids who are passionate about STEM and showing them some of the cool STEM-related activities they can get involved with as they get older,” Loyd said. “I also really enjoy getting to talk with the kids about cool stuff they are involved with at their school, like Hastings Middle School’s Robotics Club.”

This is just one of many outreach events the team participates in that highlights to young people how student organizations that focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, commonly referred to as STEM, open doors in their future education and careers.
