Spring External Advisory Board focuses on Safety and Cybersecurity

On Friday, April 5, 2019, industry, government and campus partners attended The Ohio State Center for Automotive Research (CAR) semiannual External Advisory Board meeting.

The meeting opened with a state of the center presentation by CAR Director, Giorgio Rizzoni who shared research and facility updates with the audience.  

In addition, faculty and researchers from across Ohio State presented on their work related to safety and cybersecurity, showing just how far reaching this topic is and the variety of work being done in this space all across campus.

Motorsports students shared their capstone projects with attendees and Frank S. Barickman, chief, Applied Crash Avoidance Research Division at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration presented on the Vehicle Research and Test Center and how they work with both CAR and TRC.

A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the prestigious Dwight A. Blaser Meritorious Service Award  presented annually to recognizing individuals and organizations whose sustained and extraordinary services have had a significant and lasting effect on the advancement of CAR. The 2019 recipient is the Transportation Research Center Inc.

Scholarship recipients were also recognized during the meeting. Congratulations to the following students:

  • Johnson Controls scholarship recipients: Kerri Loyd and Mason Hayes
  • Ford Blue Oval scholarship recipients: Joseph Chiu, Jackie Karl-DeFrain, Nick Kopycinski and Morgan Malencia
  • APTIV scholarship recipients: Jake Hassen and Blaine Miller
  • Ohio State Energy Partners Smart Campus Challenge recipient: Wasted Opportunities

The breadth of information shared during the meeting resulted in great questions, discussion and opportunities for collaboration.  

The next External Advisory Board Meeting will take place Friday, October 4, 2019.
