CAR faculty and University of Stuttgart visiting scholar featured in Green Car Congress article
The work of Center for Automotive Research (CAR) faculty members Marcello Canova and Shawn Midlam-Mohler was recently featured in an article on online editorial Green Car Congress' "Simulation study suggests ORC waste heat recovery system could deliver potential 7% improvement in fuel consumption in a PHEV on highway." Their joint work with the University of Stuttgart was detailed in a paper presented at the ASME Internal Combustion Engine Division 2012 Fall Technical Conference; lead author was Philipp Skarke, a University of Stuttgart student completing a visiting scholarship at CAR.
The article provides an overview of a simple Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) which could recover up to 10% of engine waste heat and lead to a possible fuel consumption improvement.
