Selamet has been a Professor and Associate Chair in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, where he directs the Flow, Engine, and Acoustics Research Laboratories within the Center for Automotive Research. He replaces Cheena Srinivasan, who announced at the beginning of the 2011-12 academic year that he was stepping down as chair, but would continue in his role as a faculty member within the department. Srinivasan has been the department chair since 2000. This past year, Srinivasan was awarded the President and Provost's Award for Distinguished Faculty Service; he was the first person in the department to receive the prestigious university award.

Selamet is recognized as a leader in advanced automotive powertrain systems, wave dynamics, noise and pollutant emission control, combustion, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. He is also a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Selamet's career honors include:

2009 Innovators Award, College Of Engineering, The Ohio State University
2002 Stanley E. Harrison Faculty Award For Excellence In Engineering Education, College Of Engineering, The Ohio State University
1999 Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award, Society Of Automotive Engineers
1997 Charles E. MacQuigg Award For Outstanding Teaching, College Of Engineering, The Ohio State University
